Question about the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away?

Castaway is a shipwrecked person. "Cast away" is a more powerful term, it refers to some one who has been ostracized, exiled, who is in deep suffering, depressed. It is as if fate has cast away Tom Hanks willfully, rather than as an accident. That is what I can think of.
